A Naturalist’s Masterclass: Capturing the Spirit of Kachemak Bay

"The sea otter was one of our top photographic targets. It was in Homer that we captured our best images, thanks to the naturalist skills of our guide Scott, who knew how to approach them while respecting their safety distance. It should be noted that the sea otter is quite shy and only allows itself to be approached with a good understanding of its habits and with the utmost care. The best time, which coincides with mating and birthing, is late spring and early summer."

Expertise and Passion:
An Unforgettable Journey with Tutka Tours

“Scott McEwen is a first-rate wildlife tour guide on Kachemak Bay out of Homer, Alaska. He constructed a tour for us on short notice when we were rained out of a Grace Ridge hike and delivered an enjoyable and high-quality experience. What sets Scott apart, given his training and experience, is his extensive knowledge of the aquatic and avian wildlife coupled with the social and economic history of the region. He is a natural teacher, sharing all of this information in an easy, unhurried way. He’s also very inventive in using sophisticated sound equipment to bring an audio sense to wildlife (see attached pic of listening to birds). We give Scott five stars and wholeheartedly recommend him.”
